The WJ is the 2nd (or 3rd) generation Grand Cherokee depending on your standards. The 96-98 ZJ and the 99-00 WJ pretty much the same under the skin. The early ZJ's, 93-95 use the older computer (not OBD II) and have some other mechanical differences. Take a look at the FAQ section for some of this info.
59 posts 路 Joined 2005. #9 路 Feb 5, 2006. Magnaflow (carsound) converter and large case Magnaflow muffler in 2.5" should be very smooth and mellow on a 4.7. Not likely to need a resonator. I have heard a small case (14") magnaflow on a 04 WJ 4.7 with no main converter and that sounded just fine.
CarlJH. it sounds more like a tap than a knock, my guess is a faulty valve adjuster. you will need to find which side it is and take the valve cover off and see if one of the rockers is loose.You can use a long screwdriver like a stethoscope, put the handle to your ear and touch the end on what you want to listen to.
