How to become a Vassal Method -
You aren't actually a Kingdom at that point. You have your lands but you aren't counted as a kingdom, you can't pass laws and such. You need to do the main questline for now at least to form your own Kingdom. Okay, sorry my kingdom is not a kingdom. I can do everything from policies to recruiting vassals, but okay I guess that doesn't count.

I joined the Vlandians quite a while ago as a Vasal and got a nice little castle that we conquered.I fully built up the castle and I got some nice troops stationed there. Once I got a full party of elite units (Vlandian elite cav, Empire archers & legionaires, Sturgian infantry, ..)

Go to your install directory and go to "Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\SandBoxCore\ModuleData" and open the spcultures.xml file. Find the culture you want and edit the two colour tags. They're in hexadecimal, but you can find a colour selector somewhere from Google probably.
